As a Senior Drivetrain Engineer, you will be responsible for the inspection, troubleshooting, and heavy maintenance of wind turbine drivetrains (gearboxes, generators, and main bearings).

This role drives asset uptime, performs root-cause analyses on mechanical failures, and executes major component replacements both onshore and offshore.

Core Responsibilities

  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform complex mechanical and electrical diagnostics on drivetrains, identifying wear and tear on bearings, gears, and high-voltage generators.
  • Component Replacement: Lead or assist in offshore heavy lifts and major component exchanges (e.g., replacing drivetrains, gearboxes, or main shafts) in coordination with logistics teams.
  • Reliability Engineering: Conduct root-cause analysis (RCA) on drivetrain failures and implement continuous improvement strategies to prevent recurring issues and boost overall operational efficiency.
  • Safety Leadership: Ensure all tasks comply with global safety standards and company electrical/mechanical safety regulations. This frequently involves working at heights and acting as a Senior Authorized Person (SAP).
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of inspections, component lifespans, and maintenance logs within asset management systems to support future life-extension projects.

Qualifications

  • Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in hands-on wind turbine maintenance or heavy rotating machinery (specifically drivetrains/gearboxes). [1]
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a relevant vocational qualification (e.g., HNC/HND or master tradesman certification).
  • Offshore Requirements: Willingness to work varying shift patterns, including living on Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) for extended offshore rotations. Valid Global Wind Organisation (GWO) safety certifications and clear offshore medical checks are typically mandatory. [1]
  • Safety Protocols: Strong working knowledge of high-voltage (HV) safety rules, LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), and permit-to-work systems. [1, 2]

Work Environment

You will split your time between working offshore on wind farms, local service bases, and standard office environments for planning. The role requires excellent teamwork, as you will closely coordinate with wind turbine technicians, supply chain managers, and external contractors
